Hey guys, guys! Good news!
My inspiration has been restored!
Thank goodness, it was about time. It was getting old fast.
Lately I've been rummaging around in my closets, and each time I seem to come away more and more dejected. Why, you ask?
Let me ask you this: do you have loadsandloadsandloadsandloads of pretty dresses that have only been worn once or twice (in public, at least. I'll gladly own up to the fact that I like randomly playing dress up once in a while...it keeps my inner child alive) living in your closet? Do you ever wish there was a way you could wear them without looking too over-the-top and prissy and generally like a complete doof?
Yeah, so do I.
So I decided to make a pact with myself:
I solemnly swearthat I am up to no good that I WILL find some way too wear each of my fancy dresses in a more casual school-friendly manner in the following week.
Self-imposed challenges are good for me. Most of the time I rise to the occasion.
So here's the first of what I hope to be a week's worth of successful examples of dressing down.
I fancy this shot as one that looks like a still from an old Hollywood movie. I flatter myself.
(dress: the tag fell off, but it's affectionately referred to as The Homecoming Dress by those familiar with it...ISWEARITSMAGIC; lace top: vintage slash stolen from my mom's closet; slip: also stolen from mom; boots: Urban Outfitters)
Don't let your beautiful dresses waste away in your closet. They secretly cry every time you shut the closet door.
Not really. But still. Nothing like quality guilt tripping, right?
So I challenge you all to do the same! Maybe not for one whole week if you don't think you're up to it, but give it a go. It's a crash course in figuring out how to make it work (hahzomgprojectrunwayreferenceseewhatididthere?!).

Great backdrop. I love the color of your dress!
ReplyDeleteThe last photo is really beautiful! I was a fan of this outfit. Since I constantly already overdress to school, this shouldn't be too hard either!
ReplyDeletelove the picture and of course, the outfit.great inspiration.i love red:)
ReplyDeletethis is good outfit inspiration!
ReplyDeleteoo this is a good challenge! and i dooo think you fancy an old hollywood star in these cross-processed pictures! beautiful!
ReplyDeletePretty skirt!! xxx Camilla
ReplyDeleteYoure the way Bella should be! not like the emo stupid girl!
ReplyDeleteits just you just put in pics the way I thought Twilight movie would be! but it was a bitter disappointment
wonderful wonderful shots!
ReplyDeletethat's a wonderful dress, and what a great idea, finding more casual ways to wear favorite dresses. i must try this!
Absolutely gorgeous photographs as usual! I really like the one through the trees of you dancing around :) The red really is a great pop of color.
ReplyDeleteBut haha, I'm actually the same way with my stuffed animals (despite being fifteen years old). I just feel really bad for the ones that are in drawers instead of on display, just like you feel bad for the dresses in your closet... You never know though, these inanimate objects really could be living! dun dun dunnn O:
Hehe, make it work! Tim Gunn is amazing :)
But anyways, good luck with your mission!
beautiful photos, that red dress is amazing
ReplyDeletei like the idea of making your formal dresses casual, excited to see the rest of the outfits
how did you get the corners to have those reddish streaks? i am very curious, maybe you could answer in your next post or tweet the answer?
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! I hate losing inspiration... such a rut isn't it? It's great to be able to pull yourself out of it and I like the idea of forcing yourself to wear something that often gets pushed aside.
ReplyDeleteAlso, like anonymous, I really admire the red light corner streaks of your photographs!
beautfiul photos (:
ReplyDeletegreat blog.

Ohmigosh I heart the way you've styled this dress. The only thing that makes me sad is the realization that I have no fancy dresses lurking in my closet to make more casual. Maybe I could just go out and buy a few? :)
ReplyDeleteGreat way to dress down the dress! I hate it when I realize I have unworn or hardly worn clothing in my closet. In my case it's usually because the summers aren't long enough for me to wear my dresses enough. I have partially solved the issue now after buying armwarmers though!
ReplyDeletethe last photo is absolutely lovely x
ReplyDeleteYou are darling.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet comment on my blog, I love your style and look forward to future fashion posts from you :)
what a great idea, thanks for the inspiration :]
ReplyDeleteThis is actually a really great idea, and the way you've teamed the dress with the shirt is flawless.
ReplyDeleteAlternatively, you could always dress up anyway. I constantly find myself overdressed, but every time I am met with a room full of jeans and t-shirts I ask myself; what would Blair Waldorf wear?
Great post!!
x
i should definitely wear the dresses in my closet more often. i need to give them life.
ReplyDeleteas for that skirt, i like the pleating detail.
You look beautiful! And that was definitely a success of an outfit :)
ReplyDeleteYour so right, sometimes I want to wear something and I don't know how to either "tone it up" or "tone it down" if you know what I mean?
ReplyDeleteThese pictures remind me of the new moon film in the woods (not that I've seen it yet but you just capture my vision from the book)
Great job, would love to hear from you more!xx
Lovely photos..especially the last two.

I have done it a couple of times with a black jersey dress with a bejewelled neckline as the black jersey is a great underlayer. But I sadly do not have enough dresses to complete this challenge!
ReplyDeleteConclusion: my aim is to buy MORE dresses ;) x
Love the color of your skirt.
ReplyDeleteThe background is gorgeous.
ooh yes, i like the idea. :) and the last shot definitely looks like something from an old-time movie...
ReplyDeleteLove it !! You look perfect !
ReplyDeleteI love this post, so inspiring! "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good" haha, I love Harry Potter so so much. You look fabulous and these images are stunning!!
ReplyDeletei love this skirt. i really, really need a plain red skirt but i just can't find the perfect one anywhere!
ReplyDeletebeautiful pictures, that color red looks stunning on you!
ReplyDeletei think it's difficult to wear fancy dresses to school too. i like the way you paired your dress with that lace top.
ReplyDeletei love that dress!!! the color is beautiful and the pleating is awesome

I like the dress. I don't own many dresses, and most of the dresses I own are casual. But I like wearing dresses a lottt. They make me feel pretty.:)
ReplyDeleteThe dress is so pretty and I love the sharp pleats.
ReplyDeleteYour veryy pretty(: Cute dress. I just went dress shopping today. I dont get dresses all the time but when I do I make sure they're fabulous, haha(: The Hey Jude chart I just randomly found but I sang the song out loud too when I found it! Thanks for the comment!

ReplyDeleteHey this is an AWESOME pact! Totally doing it too because I can completely resignate with what you're saying. The closet is chock full of semi fancy/pretty frocks that I've worn once... love the challenge. Oh, and the second from the bottom photo is my fave photo of the day, must say!

Are these shots all done with self timer? HOW ARE THEY SO GOOD! WOw, really REALLY well done. And I think I need to challange myself with pulling out the ol' dusty dresses at the back of my closet. It ridiculous how many "party" dresses i own... and i dont even party!!
ReplyDelete<3<3<3
Way to be creative and use those dresses. The photos are lovely, as are you :)
ReplyDeletei love finding old dresses squeezed into my closet that i've forgotten about! out they come and then i try to make them super different... sometimes the scissors come out too..... teeheee
ReplyDeleteloving the red dress x
ReplyDeleteThese pictures remind me of the movie, The Village -in a really good way, of course! I love how you wore the lace top over the dress, very creative!! And those boots are amazing.
